Teaching Engagements: The Art Students League of New York Painting, Composition & Color from Life 133rd
Regular Session, Art Students League of New York, NY, This course will concentrate on the study of composition and form using the human figure as a point of departure. Emphasis will be placed on working from the live model. While oil and pastel painting approaches will be stressed, students will be welcome to use any medium of their choice to explore the fundamentals of tone and color relationships. Aspects of drawing, compositional studies, and paint handling will receive special attention and will be discussed within the context of evolving vigorous solutions to the problems of painting composition. Students will be encouraged to develop their own ideas outside the class to inform their own personal artistic direction. Historical precedents will be introduced wherever and whenever relevant. Both classes are open to all levels, from beginner through advanced, throughout the session. All Day Sessions
This class will address the many challenges of urban 'Plein Air' painting, working 'in situ' using the city environs to explore painting composition, color, tone and form in outdoor light. Aspects of drawing, fundamentals of tone and color relationships, and paint handling in variety of media will also be discussed. While working in oil will be emphasized students will be welcome to use any other mediums of their choice.
