Outdoor Workshops:
The Outdoor Workshops take place in New York City and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. These are intensive workshops with limited enrollment to offer all participants personal instruction at their own levels of expertise from the outdoor newcomer to the accomplished plein air painter.
Painting the Vineyards in Summer at Niagara-on-the-Lake
Painting in outdoor light makes for exciting rewards and challenges. In this special two-day summer weekend workshop set in the vineyards of Niagara-on-the-Lake participants will explore the effect of outdoor light on color and tone. The vineyards provide a wonderful pastoral setting to explore color, design and composition in plein air painting. Developing compositional studies and responding quickly to the vagaries of outdoor light will be stressed. Issues of paint handling and drawing will also be addressed as they apply to developing a vital plein air painting. While working in oil is recommended participants will be welcome to use mediums of their choice including watercolor, pastel or acrylic. Previous experience in outdoor painting while helpful is not necessary, all levels of experience are welcome. The only requirement is an intense enthusiasm for painting in fresh air. Painting in outdoor light makes presents exciting rewards and opportunities. Expand your painting knowledge with distinguished artist, Joseph Peller. In this special four-day summer workshop set in the breath taking beauty of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, participants will explore the effect of outdoor light on color and tone. The diversity of the natural topography of Steamboat Springs, from rugged wilderness to sweeping ranch pastorals, provides a wide range of painting experiences for every artist. Developing compositional studies and responding quickly to the vagaries of outdoor light will be emphasized. Mr. Peller’s extensive experience in plein air painting and unique understanding of color and light brings his special expertise to this stunning mountain destination.
While working in oil is recommended, participants are welcome to use mediums of their choice. Students will be encouraged to develop their own ideas to inform their vision with craft and take advantage of their own artistic temperaments. Historical precedents and artists will be referenced whenever possible. Previous experience in outdoor painting while helpful is not necessary. All levels of experience are welcome. The only requirement is an intense enthusiasm for plein air painting.
